Staycation...paintcation...trimcation

Child-free staycation weekend! Friday afternoon I spent getting closer to finalizing our stair carpet, registering A for preschool (Seriously? Already?), taking the dog in for a check up, and catching up on a little writing.

Friday evening and Saturday we spent by continuing the baseboard install (N) and painting (me). You'd think we couldn't possibly have anything left to paint, but oh my, we do. Most of it centers around the nursery where A has been sleeping, as we haven't been able to get in there easily and cross these items off the list. Both closets in there needed two coats each of paint, both doors needed two coats each of finish paint on both sides, and both door frames needed two coats of paint. Also, since both bathrooms had some mud work done this week around the new cement board, they needed priming, and then two coats of paint. The girls' bath, since it's separated into two sections, only needed this treatment in the toilet/shower "room" but the guest bath needed it everywhere. With so many things needing multiple coats, I would paint one thing, go downstairs and clean out my brush and grab a different roller and paint pan, go up, paint, then come back down and switch again. Good gracious I did more paint brush cleaning than paint brush painting! Just like our water shut off valve, I am now well versed in the art of cleaning painting supplies.

Also, incredibly boring photo, but this is why we paint closets. See the 30 years of icky yellow blah on top of the clean white? Gah-ross.

Baseboard install is *almost* done, barring a couple details around the hvac vents. (Which are complicated by outlets that are too close to our now-much-larger trim, might have our contractor move them a smidge, we'll see...)

Final pieces went up in the half old/half new balcony area.
(Isn't that enormous crown moulding beautiful? It carries throughout the vaulted foyer. I love it.)

We'll take the attic closet door where N is standing and the double doors where I was standing off tomorrow. They'll receive the same treatment all the other upstairs doors received: hardare removal, sanding, cleaning, priming, and painting. And that door frame in the middle that's been sanded? That's my first task in the morning; priming that puppy.

Hey, no lying down on the job!

It wasn't all work, our first staycation/trimcation/paintcation day. Meals were eaten outside the house. Coffee was made and liesurely sipped. Magazines were read cover to cover in one sitting. Basketball games were watched. Certain doggies were given extra TLC.

Oh, and catnaps were caught. Work gloves (and snoopy pups) and all.

There was a funny trip to Lowe's for more trim that N was convinced would fit in the Exolorer. I argued the opposite. I was right. It was returned not even two minutes after it was purchased. Ha! We did squeeze in a bundle of shorter stuff though.

I also finally ordered the crib for our littlest lady. Aaaaand doing so for some reason triggered a fraud alert on our AmEx. Ha! Within 30 seconds we received an app alert, email, and phone call. Of all the things we have been ordering from weird sites lately like LightingDirect.com and MyDoorknobs.com, the order from a basic big box store of a baby crib triggered the alarm. Made us laugh. :)

Reports from Grandma and Grandpa's are that many toys are being played with, sleep is great and on schedule, and smiles are a'plenty. So glad to hear. Pics that were passed along...
More tomorrow...
