Upstairs remodel 2014: by the numbers

Because sometimes there is no other way to describe it than with the stats:

3 bedrooms
2 baths
1 hallway
1 balcony

4 - times we called in our contractor after promising him we were done calling him in

1% - the amount of all the work we did that we actually planned to do at the beginning of the project

22 - times we looked at each other in disbelief and wondered how we got into this situation

1000% - how pleased we are that we did it all now and can check the entire upstairs off our list

2 - number of feet you could walk into the office before running into furniture and having to turn around during the height of the construction

9 - number of times we high fived over the heavy duty abilities of our whole-house central vac system

2 types of carpet
2 types of tile
2 colors of grout

1 type of countertop, toilet
X 2, sink x 3, sink faucet x 3, and bath faucet x 2

8 colors of paint, including ceiling, closet, primer, trim, and walls

3 different paint finishes
2 types of cabinet pulls
2 types of doorknobs
5 unique light fixtures across 10 locations
1 HUGE design project

12 gallons of paint-like materials piled up in the garage, waiting a trip to the toxic dump

6,472 trips to the hardware store

24,891 nail holes that were scraped, filled in, sanded, and painted over amongst all the trim

100% of popcorn ceilings removed

100% of the trim upstairs that's now brand new, including all baseboard, windows, door frames, and crown moulding

14 - original doors that were sanded, cleaned, primed twice, painted twice, and reinstalled with new hardware

1 plumbing-related catastrophe
1 emergency plumbing repair

30 outlet and light switch guts replaced
30 new outlet and light switch covers replaced

10 - weeks the garage was too full of remodeling debris for N to fit his truck in

30 - wheelbarrow trips N took from the garage to the curb to load up the dumpster before pick up

1 - extra dumpster bag we quickly realized we would need to fit it all in

105 - days from very start to finish

Phew!
